Gary Vician

Born in DeKalb, IL, 1954.  Graduated from York High School (Elmhurst) 1972. Northern Illinois University, B.S in Education with a Science Minor, 1976.  Northern Illinois University, M.S. in Education, 1978. Loyola University of Chicago, Doctorate in Educational Administration, 1994. Residing in homes in Naperville and Somonauk, IL.

 

A longtime member and attender at College Church in Wheaton, IL. Married to Glenda Vician, together they have devoted their lives to helping others. Gary has ten grandchildren.  He raised two daughters and a stepson. Glenda and Gary have spent years as caregivers for grandparents, parents, family, and people in need.

 

Prior to beginning his career as a teacher, Gary worked as a camp counselor, landscaper, janitor, factory worker, painter, roofer, handyman, salesman, and in real estate. His teaching career began in the Elgin School District where he taught in elementary, middle and high school. He was a science teacher in the upper grades and served five years as an administrator.  Gary also taught for three years teaching science, mathematics and technology at the Koraes Greek Orthodox School in Palos Hills, IL.

 

Gary devotion to helping others led him to volunteer his time to numerous ways. Church maintenance and Sunday School teaching.  He belongs to the Naperville Noon Lions club where he previously served as Lions Club President.  Addition service and membership in Exchange, Rotary and Junior Chamber Clubs.

A longtime advocate of keeping active, hiking, camping, and involved in sports, Gary has coached basketball, football, baseball, volleyball, and soccer.  The Vician family has visited all 50 states in the U.S. and has enjoyed exploring and camping in most of North America.

 

Part of Gary Vician’s service and volunteering experiences began as a family helping on political campaigns.   His first vote was in the 14rh Congressional District in November 1972 and has voted and volunteered helping candidates and elected officials, local, state and national. Gary Vician first ran and was elected Addison Township Trustee April 1, 1985, and reelected April 1989.  He was elected as a Naperville Township Trustee three times: 1997, 2001 and 2005.  His election as Naperville Township Supervisor was in 2009.

 

Gary Vician’s leadership as Naperville Township Supervisor, 2009-2013, resulted in many benefits to the citizens and taxpayers of Naperville Township.  Gary eliminated debt, cut spending, increased services while returning money to the taxpayers. Service programs were expanded for children, families, public health, mental health, food pantry, seniors, and public assistance.  He established veteran’s assistance programs, intergovernmental cooperation agreements, along with energy and waste hauling savings.
